Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to Paul, Dave, Kris, David, etc.!! Special thanks to my dad, Paul, for instilling a love of music in me and exposing me to amazing stuff that no one else was listening to when I was a kid.

I'm so excited we got to play Helmet on today's show. "Unsung" is one of my (and Matthew's) favorite songs of all time! Listen in to next week's show for more music from their drummer, John Stanier.

Also, as we previewed on today's show, we are expanding from one hour to two starting next Sunday, June 22. We'll do the regular Connect the Dots portion from 5-6pm and from 5-7pm, we'll highlight bands who'll be playing live in the Chicago area in the next week. There will be band interviews, info on gigs, and samples of music from a selection of bands. Thanks to Derek Poteat of The Ahleuchatistas and Jacque Harper from the Chicago Bass Ensemble for being on today's show.

Esssssssss

Lots of S's on today's show.

With band names like Sticks & Stones, Savath & Savalas, Sam Prekop, Edith Frost, Prefuse 73, The Sea and Cake, Shrimp Boat and the s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s of the summer rain outside, today's show was full of small hissing noises. Is it any wonder that S is one of my favorite letters? Although the S theme wasn't on purpose, it still fits.

This was a very fun show to put together. I'll be listening to this playlist all week! And it will move into some super cool stuff next week that you should really enjoy.

Big News: Connect the Dots will be expanding to 2 hours! Starting on Sunday, June 22nd, we'll be on the air from 5pm-7pm Central time. The second hour will be a slight departure from the connections, though. Tune in next week and we'll fill you in.

Thanks for listening!

Haunted Studio

I haven't yet listened back to the recording of today's show, but if it sounded a little weird to anyone, let me explain what was going on.

It's really very simple. The entire studio was possessed by ghosts and weirdos and whatnot. From extreme technical difficulties to bizarre callers demanding to be put on the air so they could talk about the White Sox, there were strange things happening in the studio and we both got a bit flustered at one point or another.

At least the music was super-cool! Lots of good stuff on today's show, showcasing an amazing amount of diversity from projects including Josh Abrams. I found it really hard to select just one track to play from most of the artists' featured today. With Nicole Mitchell, we just had to include 2 songs because we were into both of them so much and couldn't decide. Check out the Show Notes for today's show and give a listen to the entire records - you won't be sorry! Good, good stuff!
